For the last few years we keep finding ourselves playing at the Agro Cafe (1363 Railspur Alley) on Granville Island at this time of year — playing Fringe Festival afterparties they have there every night at the Fringebar, as part of the Sounds of the Fringe series. This year we’ll be playing there at 9:30 pm, NOT ONLY with our own Dr. T., again promoting his Vancouver Fringe magic show Things That Never Happen, but also we’ll be followed by (or: we’re opening for, if you prefer) last year’s Shindig! winners The Oh Wells. Thanks to Wild Horse Canyon wine and St. Ambroise brewing for sponsoring the stage and venue — now we just need you to come on out and enjoy the party they’re throwing for your benefit! The Globe and Mail marked us as a Hot Ticket!
Update! Another glowing endorsement by DiSCORDER! It was our month to shine in their pages, to be sure.

What was previously alluded to can now be stated plainly: the Creaking Planks are returning to Vancouver Island, with fewer stops than last time — only two, making for a killer weekend with our Californian uke-slinging pal.
Friday, Sept 10th, we’ll be back at the Duncan Garage Showroom playing for an unruly crew of Long John and some of Duncan’s finest connoisseurs of humourous musical mayhem.

Saturday, September 11th, we take on Victoria’s Fort Cafe (742 Fort Street) not only with Uni in tow but also Victoria’s own squeezebox madman David P. Smith headlining a thrilling night of killer tunes on outsider instruments — doors at 7:30, music at 9.

Then, Sunday, September 12th, we return home for our second year at the Fringe Festival bar (you can catch us in the program!) at the St. Ambroise Fringe Bar at Agro Cafe (1363 Railspur Alley, Granville Island), where not only will Uni be joining us again, but also Dr. Steelhand’s alter ego, Travis the Magician, promoting his Fringe show Things That Never Happen.

The Planks are chuffed to be playing (from 10:30 pm until… late!) at the St. Ambroise Fringe Bar immediately following the Vancouver Fringe Festival’s Opening Gala. Our performance will be situated in the Agro Cafe (1363 Railspur Alley) on Granville Island with the rest of the Fringe Festivities. Head-scratchingly, we won’t be there on one of the nights it hosts the Plank Club, but I suppose we guarantee one of our own. We haven’t been involved with the Fringe at all since being a backup band in 2005’s Jew! A Musical so it’s a nice opportunity to touch base with our roots and commiserate with actors crying in their drinks over the latest round of arts cuts.
